Jamaica U15 Reggae Boyz Drop to Tier B After 5-1 Loss to Czech Republic

Jamaica’s Under-15 Reggae Boyz will compete in Tier B at the FIFA U15 World Cup and Festival after finishing second in Group AB following a 5-1 defeat to the Czech Republic in their final group match on Monday morning, as reported by the Jamaica Gleaner.

The young Boyz needed a victory to advance to the Round of 16 in Tier A. The loss closed that door, but it did not close the tournament.

A historic goal in a hard loss

Despite the defeat, Jamaica scored against a UEFA opponent at a FIFA tournament for the first time since 2011, when Andre Lewis netted against France at the FIFA U17 World Cup, as reported by the Jamaica Gleaner.

That single goal is the detail worth keeping from a 5-1 scoreline. It tells the next generation the gap can be bridged, even on a morning when the result went the other way.

Four wins before the fall

The young Reggae Boyz entered the match on the back of four consecutive victories, including a 3-2 win over Togo earlier on Monday, as reported by the Jamaica Gleaner.

Two games in one day, four wins in the run, then a strong European side in the decider. The record of the week is bigger than the last result alone.

What happens next

Jamaica can finish as high as 33rd or as low as 64th overall and will begin the placement stage on Wednesday, as reported by the Jamaica Gleaner.

The team will have to wait until the remaining group stage matches are completed to learn their next opponent. The placement games are where the young Boyz turn a tough Monday into a finishing position they can build on.
