Portmore United Chase Caribbean Cup Final Tonight at Sabina Park

Portmore United are 90 minutes from a Caribbean Cup final, and the job finishes tonight in Kingston.

The Jamaican club hosts Violette AC of Haiti at Sabina Park this evening, Wednesday, October 28, in the second leg of their Concacaf Caribbean Cup semifinal, according to Concacaf. Portmore carries a 3-1 lead from the first leg.

The cushion, and the danger

Javier Brown scored twice in the first leg as Portmore recorded 29 total shots and 9 on target, their highest tallies in this edition of the tournament, according to Concacaf.

The danger has a name and a scoreline. Violette has won both of its home matches in the competition, including a 3-0 win over Defence Force, and that exact result tonight would flip the tie, according to Concacaf. Elyvens Dejean provided his third assist of the tournament in the first leg, a tournament leading mark.

A final place is not the only prize

The winner of this semifinal qualifies directly for the 2027 Concacaf Champions Cup, according to Concacaf. The losing side still gets a route in, through the third place game, where the final Champions Cup berth is decided.

Mount Pleasant is already waiting in the final after beating Club Sando, as reported by the Trinidad and Tobago Guardian. A Portmore win tonight sets up an all Jamaican Caribbean Cup final, a statement about where club football on the island stands right now.

A match that had to move

This second leg was rescheduled and moved to Sabina Park after the original Dominican Republic venue fell through, as reported by Station509 and the Jamaica Gleaner. Violette, the designated home team, plays its home leg on its opponent’s ground, which makes Portmore’s home crowd part of the story tonight.

Kickoff is 7:00 PM Eastern, 6:00 PM in Jamaica. Portmore does not need to win the night. It needs to protect two goals, at home, with a final and a Champions Cup place waiting on the other side.
