Portmore United Caribbean Cup Semifinal Postponed: Concacaf Pushes Violette AC Second Leg to the Week of October 26

Portmore United vs Violette AC, first leg at Sabina Park

Portmore United will have to wait to finish the job. Concacaf announced on October 18 that the 2026 Concacaf Caribbean Cup semifinal second leg between Violette AC of Haiti and Portmore United, originally scheduled for Tuesday, October 20 at Estadio Cibao FC in Santiago de los Caballeros, Dominican Republic, has been postponed.

What Concacaf confirmed

Concacaf said the match is expected to be played during the week of October 26, with the new date, kickoff time and venue still to be confirmed, and further details to come in due course. Concacaf’s announcement did not state a reason for the postponement.

The reported background

iciHaiti reported on October 19 that Dominican Minister of Sports and Recreation Kelvin Cruz reiterated on Sunday a position first expressed on October 1, following incidents at the Felix Sanchez Olympic Stadium during a match between the Dominican Republic and Haiti national teams, that Haitian national and club teams would not play in Dominican stadiums. iciHaiti reported that the position was supported by President Luis Abinader, and that Dominican Football Federation president Jose Francisco Deschamps said the federation is complying with the government decision. Violette, a Haitian club, play their home matches in the Dominican Republic because they cannot host in Haiti.

Portmore hold the advantage

On the pitch, the Jamaican side are in control of the tie. In the first leg at Sabina Park in Kingston on October 13, Portmore came from behind to beat Violette 3-1. Jean-Fabrice Vedrine put Violette ahead in the 39th minute, Javier Brown equalised in the 63rd and scored again in the 74th, and Tedj Bryan finished a counterattack in stoppage time. Concacaf noted that Portmore became the first team in Caribbean Cup history to come from behind and win a knockout stage match, with 30 shots and 3.64 expected goals, the highest totals by any team in a single match in the 2026 competition.

The series winner advances to the Caribbean Cup final and secures a 2027 Concacaf Champions Cup place. In the other semifinal, Mount Pleasant FA and Club Sando are level at 1-1 ahead of their second leg in Kingston on October 22, so an all-Jamaican final remains possible.
