Back At No. 1? 450 and Damian Marley Take Good Morning Back to the Top in America (VIDEO)

450 and Damian Marley

Some songs arrive with noise. This one arrived with gratitude, and it is still travelling.

Good Morning, the collaboration led by Jamaican dancehall artist 450 with Damian “Jr. Gong” Marley, is back at No. 1 on the U.S. iTunes Reggae Music Videos chart, according to DancehallMag. The song was released on October 16, and three weeks later it is still the video American reggae fans are reaching for first.

The detail that matters most is the billing. This is 450’s record, with Damian joining him on it, and Damian has been careful to keep it that way. On November 4, Damian shared a Reel on his official Instagram page pushing the song, writing: “Good Morning Family… Have a Great One!! Brought to you all courtesy of @450music and yours truly… zeen. SEeeeeerLectaaah!!! #positivemessages Fully Love,” according to DancehallMag.

A Song Built On One Simple Idea

Good Morning is centred on thankfulness: gratitude, appreciation, and embracing each new day. 450 carries the song with his melodic dancehall delivery, and Damian layers his unmistakable reggae touch over it.

The track was produced by Jahvanie “Weekday” Morrison. The official video, directed by Aka.Ruppi Tnonc and shot between Jamaica and Miami, arrived on 450’s own channel the same day the single landed.

For 450, born Tristen Escoffery, this is a career marker. He only started recording professionally in 2019, building his following through songs like Imperfection and Journey. Good Morning is his first link up with Damian Marley, and he has described the opportunity as a meaningful moment, a sign that his direction is being recognised by one of the genre’s heavyweights, according to DancehallMag.

The Run So Far

The chart story did not start this week. Within its first day, the video had already reached No. 1 on the U.S. iTunes Reggae Music Videos chart, and the song climbed to No. 2 on the U.S. iTunes Reggae Songs chart, according to DancehallMag reporting at the time of release.

The video then passed three million views on YouTube in under a week. By late October, the song had climbed to No. 1 on Audiomack in the United States, reached No. 4 and No. 6 on iTunes charts in the United Kingdom and Japan, topped iTunes in Grenada and The Bahamas, and hit No. 10 on YouTube’s trending chart in Jamaica, charting in more than 35 countries in all, according to DancehallMag.

That is why this week’s return to No. 1 in America reads differently. It is not a first-week spike. It is a song with staying power, still moving three weeks after release, with its senior partner actively promoting it as if it were his own lead single.

Two Generations, One Message

Damian Marley, the youngest son of Bob Marley, has won five Grammy Awards, from Halfway Tree in 2002 through Welcome to Jamrock and Stony Hill. He has nothing left to prove. What he is doing on Good Morning is something else: standing beside the next generation, on their record, and pointing his audience toward it.

Nation, talk to us: is Good Morning the positivity anthem dancehall needed this year, or is the chart run just getting started?
