Far From Finished? Patra Takes the Lifetime Achievement Award and Announces Two Albums (PHOTOS)

Give the Queen of the Pack her flowers, officially. Patra has received the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2026 Caribbean Music Awards, and the honour caught her completely off guard.

She almost missed the news entirely. Patra told the Jamaica Observer she was so wrapped up in preparing for interviews that she did not open the organisers’ message for days, and when she finally read it, it stopped her cold, according to DancehallMag, reporting her Observer interview on November 1.

“I got very emotional and it put me in a sense of realisation and meditation,” Patra told the Jamaica Observer. “I looked back at where I used to be as an artiste and it was very humbling.”

The night itself

The award was presented at the fourth annual Caribbean Music Awards at the National Academy for the Performing Arts in Port of Spain, Trinidad, the first time the ceremony was staged in the Caribbean region, according to Billboard. Seani B and Alison Hinds presented the honour, according to Ameyaw Debrah’s report of the ceremony.

Patra paid tribute to the artists and mentors who shaped her journey, including Bunny Wailer, Shabba Ranks, Yellowman, General Trees and Ninja Man, according to Ameyaw Debrah. She then returned to the stage for a surprise closing performance, running a medley of Queen of the Pack, Worker Man, Romantic Call and Pull Up to My Bumper.

On the night she collected it, an attendee filmed her holding the trophy to camera herself, its base reading “Caribbean Music Awards Lifetime Achievement Award Patra,” thanking the awards and shouting out Calypso Rose, who received the Elite Calypso Award the same night.

Why this honour was overdue

Patra’s place in the record books was set early. Her 1993 debut album Queen of the Pack was the first album by a Jamaican female artist to reach No. 1 on the Billboard Reggae Albums chart, and it went Gold in the United States, according to CanadianYardie and The Caribbean Edit. Worker Man carried her onto the Billboard Hot 100.

She broke into dancehall when men far outnumbered women in the genre, and she told the Jamaica Observer the scene lifted her instead: “I always wanted to be a superstar and take my country to the world, and they really facilitated my growth,” according to DancehallMag.

“Going there to pick up the award, healthy, and still being able to do something that I love, was a feeling I still can’t put into words,” she told the Jamaica Observer.

Far from finished

Nobody should mistake this for a farewell lap. After stepping away for a while, Patra has signed a new distribution deal through J House and Sony Orchard, according to DancehallMag. “People haven’t seen anything yet. Patra is warming up,” she said.

The plan is two albums in the first quarter of 2027: one in her own Patra vibes, and one that jumps into house music, according to DancehallMag. Two new singles are already out: No Threat, about reclaiming her individuality, and Me So Sexy, the lead single from the J House Vol 1 project, with a video on the way. She is also lined up for the Rock The Bells Cruise.

A lifetime award, a closing performance, and a comeback plan announced in the same breath. The Queen of the Pack is collecting her flowers and getting back to work.
