Home At Last: Rygin King Returns to Jamaica After Months in US Immigration Detention

Rygin King

Rygin King is back on Jamaican soil. The dancehall artiste, born Matthew Smith, landed in Jamaica on the afternoon of Thursday, October 22, 2026, ending months in United States immigration detention, according to DancehallMag, which cited sources close to the entertainer.

The Tuff deejay reportedly chose to come home rather than remain in custody, a decision sources described as “voluntary deportation.” Those same sources say his health was the deciding factor. DancehallMag, One876 Entertainment and TEMPO Networks have all reported the return. No official statement from Rygin King, his attorneys or US immigration authorities has been published, and Jamroc Nation is reporting the homecoming on that basis: multiply reported, not yet officially confirmed.

The Confirmed Timeline

The broad outline of the case has been consistently reported. Rygin King was detained by US Immigration and Customs Enforcement in March 2026, reportedly just hours before a scheduled green card interview.

His detention was tied to unresolved charges from a July 2024 arrest in Queens, New York, during a traffic stop in which police said a loaded firearm was found. He pleaded not guilty to the weapons and ammunition charges, and the case remained a live complication over his immigration proceedings while he stayed in custody through the spring and summer of 2026.

What Is Reported, And What Is Not Confirmed

Two points in the current reporting carry explicit caution, and readers deserve them stated plainly.

First, the reported dismissal. DancehallMag reports that the New York weapons case was dismissed in the week before his return, and sources close to the artiste believe that could open a path to revisiting his green card application. The outlet is equally clear that the dismissal has not been independently confirmed through court records. Jamroc Nation has not confirmed it either.

Second, the legal shape of his departure. The precise terms remain unclear, and there is no confirmation that his green card application has been reinstated or that he has permission to reenter the United States. Any claim beyond that is speculation, and we are not printing it as fact.

Fans React

Word of the landing spread fast across dancehall social media on Thursday, with fans greeting the news with relief more than debate. Rygin King’s health has been a public concern since the 2020 shooting that left him with life changing injuries, and for many supporters the reaction has been simple: after months behind detention walls, the artiste is home, and home is where he can recover.

What Comes Next

For now, the confirmed story is the homecoming itself. Whether the reported case dismissal becomes official record, and whether any route back to the United States exists, are questions only court filings and his legal team can answer. Jamroc Nation will update this story when they do.
