One of Jamaica’s most treasured cultural institutions is coming to South Florida. The National Dance Theatre Company of Jamaica, the NDTC, performs RISE: Rituals of Home, Heritage and Thanksgiving at the Miramar Cultural Center in Miramar, Florida on Friday, October 30, 2026, BroadwayWorld reported on October 21, 2026.
Eight works, one night of heritage
The two hour gala starts at 8 p.m. at the Miramar Cultural Center, 2400 Civic Center Place, Miramar. The evening is hosted by Vice Mayor Carson Eddy Edwards and presented by the Miramar Cultural Center.
The programme spans more than five decades of the company’s repertoire in eight works: Ritual of the Sunrise (1998), Traddin’ (2013), Home (2025), a live Drumming Interlude, Ascending (2025), Bloom (2025), Don’t Leave Me (2013), and a closing performance of Kumina (1971), the beloved classic by company co-founder Professor Rex Nettleford. Tickets start at $56.
Why Miramar matters
Miramar sits in the heart of South Florida’s Jamaican diaspora, in Broward County, where Jamaican food, music and church life shape whole neighbourhoods. Bringing the NDTC to the Miramar Cultural Center puts a flagship of Jamaican high culture on a local stage, minutes from the families who grew up on its music and movement.
The NDTC, founded in 1962 alongside Jamaican independence, has carried the island’s folk forms, music and storytelling to stages around the world for more than sixty years. RISE is built around home, heritage and thanksgiving, themes that land with particular force for an audience living between two homes. For South Florida Jamaicans, October 30 is a rare chance to see that legacy performed live, close to home.
