Portmore United Beat Violette AC 3-1 in Concacaf Caribbean Cup Semifinal Comeback at Sabina Park

Portmore United players celebrate at Sabina Park

Portmore United gave Sabina Park a night to remember, coming from a goal down to beat Violette AC 3-1 in the first leg of the Concacaf Caribbean Cup semifinals on Tuesday.

Down first, then all Portmore

Violette struck first in the 39th minute, when Jean-Fabrice Vedrine curled a shot into the upper corner from just outside the box. It was the first goal Portmore had conceded from outside the area in this competition, and for a while the Haitian club looked comfortable with the lead. The second half flipped the tie. Javier Brown levelled in the 63rd minute, pouncing on a rebound from the goalkeeper. Eleven minutes later Brown struck again, smashing a right footed shot off the bounce to complete his brace and put Portmore in front.

A finish that made history

Portmore kept pushing, and in the fifth minute of stoppage time Tedj Bryan finished a counterattack, dribbling past the keeper to make it 3-1. Concacaf records show Portmore are the first team in Caribbean Cup history to come from behind and win a knockout stage match, outside of third place games. The numbers underline the performance: 30 shots and 3.64 expected goals, the highest totals by any team in a single match in the 2026 competition. Brown now shares the tournament lead for goal involvements, with five.

What comes next

The second leg is set for Tuesday, October 20 at Estadio Cibao in Santiago de los Caballeros, Dominican Republic. Portmore travel with a two goal cushion, but the job is only half done. One more composed performance and a Jamaican club will be playing for the Caribbean Cup title.
