Asafa Powell spent two decades teaching the world how fast a Jamaican can run. Now he wants to teach the next generation how he did it.
From the track to the training ground
The former 100m world record holder told TVJ Sports that he is accepting coaching enquiries from athletes around the world, offering his services as a high-performance consultant through Doyle Management. The announcement, aired on TVJ on October 7, 2026, marks a new chapter for one of the most consistent sprinters the sport has ever seen.
A record that still stands tall
Powell held the 100m world record before the Usain Bolt era, and his personal best of 9.72 seconds still sits among the fastest times in history. His signature mark is consistency: he broke the 10 second barrier 97 times, a Guinness World Record for sub-10 clockings. Much of that craft was built under legendary Jamaican coach Stephen Francis.
Why his voice matters now
Powell has long argued that the 100m only looks simple because it is short. In his view the event is deeply technical, and every phase demands preparation and hard work. That is the knowledge he is now offering: race preparation, technique, recovery, and the mental side of performing.
