Trayvone Reid Penalty: Mount Pleasant Winger’s Slow Run-Up Is Saved as Club Sando Hold On for 1-1 Caribbean Cup Draw

Mount Pleasant player celebrating in Caribbean Cup play

It might be the slowest penalty run-up football has ever seen, and it did not work. Mount Pleasant winger Trayvone Reid took an age to reach the ball in the Concacaf Caribbean Cup semi-final, and Club Sando goalkeeper Teshorne Ragoo simply waited him out and saved it.

How the moment unfolded

Mount Pleasant, the Jamaican side and defending champions in this tie, led through Warner Brown’s 11th-minute goal in the first leg in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago, on Wednesday, October 14, 2026.

In the 36th minute, Mount Pleasant won a penalty for handball and Reid stepped up. What followed was a long series of tiny, stuttering steps toward the ball, timed at roughly 17 seconds in the footage that has since spread across social media. When the shot finally came, it was low and central, and Ragoo saved comfortably.

USA TODAY called it perhaps the slowest penalty run-up of all time. Nogomania, reporting on October 16, put it plainly: there was plenty of preparation, but no second goal.

The miss that changed the tie

The save kept Club Sando within one goal, and the Trinidad and Tobago side made it count. Daniel David equalised in the 56th minute, and the first leg finished 1-1.

That turns a night that could have ended with a two-goal cushion into a level tie. For Mount Pleasant, the frustration is simple: the chance to take control of the semi-final was there, from twelve yards, and it slipped away in the strangest way possible.

All to play for in Kingston

The second leg is set for Kingston, Jamaica, on Thursday, October 22, 2026. The winner of the tie moves on to the Caribbean Cup final in December, where the winner of the other semi-final, between Jamaican side Portmore United and Haitian side Violette, will be waiting.

Reid, a Jamaican international who debuted for the Reggae Boyz in 2022, will get his chance to answer on home soil. Mount Pleasant still can reach another final, but they now have to earn it the hard way.
